Drag Me To Hell

Last week my husband and I watched Drag Me To Hell via DVD and I have to say I had a lot of laughing time. Yes, it’s supposed to be a suspense movie but for some reason there are some scenes that made me laugh really crazy.

One is when Ganush’s false teeth fell off and her mouth landed on the lead character’s (Christine Brown) mouth during a parking lot attack scene at the beginning of the movie. It was a little gross but at the same time funny. And mind you, it happened twice…lolz

scene from the movie

Unlike other suspense movies I’ve seen before, this Sam Raimi film is quite fresh for its genre because it’s not all about scaring you to death from start to end. Instead, it gives a mix of comedy and suspense. I won’t say it’s the best suspense movie I’ve ever seen but at least it’s different this time.

Even my husband who wasn’t so much into this type of movie has somehow made a liking for it because of the funny scenes it incorporated.

Tita Cory’s funeral convoy

coryfuneral

This was the scene in South Expressway caught by my husband from our unit during former President Cory Aquino’s funeral convoy on Aug. 05. There were indeed a huge throng of people who participated as she was brought to her final resting place in Manila Memorial Park (Parañaque).

I have seen all the complete footages and tributes given to her on TV and I have to admit that not only once have I caught myself shedding some tears most especially during the requiem mass given to her earlier. She will forever remain as the true mother of democracy!

Thank you Tita Cory :)

Wonder Girls’ Nobody

I admit I have become an instant fan of the Wonder Girls after I heard their hit “Nobody” which have been playing the airwaves for quite a while now. Although the only word I can understand in this music is the title of the song, I just so love their choreographed dance. In fact, I’ve been imitating the steps at home and is becoming my favorite exercise moves…lolz

Mar Roxas “Padyak” II ads

I’ve been seeing this ad almost nearly a dozen times in a day. And mind you, I don’t even spend all day in front of the TV.

If I am apathetic and unaffected I’d rather blog about my day at work, perhaps, it’s even more interesting. But just a minute ago I came across this Mar Roxas’ “Padyak II” ad for the nth time and to be honest it’s becoming a sore in my viewing time.

In the first few seconds of this ad, a woman approaches the politician by saying “Mar, tignan mo nman ang binili ko anim ang kakain nito pero pang-dalawa lang ang budget.” Then there’s this teen boy telling him “Gusto ko po sanang tapusin ang aking pag-aaral.”

Wow, what a big responsibility, isn’t it?!

While it is forgivable seeing politicians so hellbent in winning everyone’s vote by simultaneously broadcasting their platforms anywhere and everywhere what irritates me is when they start giving the public the wrong message that we can be highly dependent to the government.

Now here’s my take, if a President is elected it is not her obligation to put food in every household’s table. But I would agree that it is her duty to make sure our economy is at stable condition and that we have sufficient livelihood opportunities to improve our living. If a President or an entire body of politician is elected to office it is not their responsibility to send our children to school and pay for all the expenses. After all, we do not live in a charity world and that’s reality. But I would agree that it is their duty to ensure that the people is well and properly protected by the laws they pass and that they are applied fairly to all.

To be honest, this type of ad disillusions a lot of people. Because when the so-called “masa” start casting their votes they automatically think that they are voting for these people because they will give them heaven and riches.

And finally, can I just say: stop sugarcoating for crying out loud!

Fil-Am Thia Megia in America’s Got Talent 2009

America's Got Talent Thia Megia

What do Jasmin Trias, Camille Velasco, and Ramiele Malubay have in common besides they’re all Fil-Ams?

Right, they were all products of American Idol, an American reality-TV talent show that produced a lot of hitmakers in the music world. Despite criticisms of frequently imitating international music artists there’s no denying the fact that we have a handful of our “kababayans” who’ve proven their unquestionable singing prowess worldwide. And now, another Fil-Am is beautifully serenading millions of viewers with her beautiful voice. What’s more: she’s only 14 years old and she got the nod of the three celebrity judges of America’s Got Talent during a June 30 episode.

I watched the Youtube video of Thia Megia who belted out a Jennifer Holiday hit “I Am Changing” and can I just say that I was totally in awe with her song rendition. I mean, she got a really good voice for a 14 year old. She looked a bit frizzy during the episode though (I guess it’s because of the hair), but nonetheless, I sure think she’s got a really winning place in the show. Way to go Thia!

Goodbye Michael Jackson

I admit I was never a huge Michael Jackson fan. But what the heck, that didn’t stop me from liking Black or White and Man In The Mirror — two of his hitmakers. Hence, when I heard he died due to cardiac arrest I couldn’t help but somewhat feel melancholic for a while. After all, who wouldn’t have known Michael Jackson — the King of Pop?

On July 7 in his memorial service, attended by family, friends, fans, and media it cannot be denied that he’s still as popular as he has been when he was still alive. I was particularly moved when his daughter, Paris, tearfully expressed her love for her dad. Something that the public probably never knew about until only after he died.

Transformers 2: A disappointing comeback

First of all, the original plan was to watch the movie in an IMAX theater at the Mall of Asia. Unfortunately, we did not make it to the 10:45 AM slot — next screening was 1:15 and already sold out — so we ended up buying a regular premiere pass for a regular movie screening instead.

Second, having enjoyed the first movie installment, I was already imagining that it’s going to give me the same degree of fun and excitement despite the movie’s more than two hours total running time, not to mention the long queues that greeted us when we bought our tickets.

Forty-five minutes into the movie I was already beginning to yawn and feel sleepy no matter how spectacular the fighting robots were. Even Bumblebee, who happened to be my favorite Autobots, did not help in reviving my interest. Seriously, I just thought Michael Bay tried so hard to squeeze in a lot of things just to make the movie entertaining — from Megan Fox’s overboard seductiveness, to Sam’s (Shia LaBeouf) forever-debating parents, to the non-stop babbling twin Autobots.

There were also too many sentimental scenes in the Revenge of the Fallen which somehow made me feel like I am watching some local soap opera. And finally, I didn’t like that the movie started with all the fight scenes going on too soon, making it quite predictable as what’s gonna happen next.

“King of Pop” Michael Jackson dead at 50

He’s probably one of the most embattled superstars of his time for the many controversies he’s involved himself with. But he’s also one of the most loved and admired people in the entertainment universe for the number of hits that topped many music billboards since he debuted in the Jackson Five pop group. But today, following his confirmed death due to cardiac arrest, it’s definitely gonna be the saddest day for his millions of fans all over the world!

While he was known for his hitmakers such as Billie Jeans, Black or White, and Thriller among others, he was also widely-criticized for multiple accusations of child abuse to which he eventually battled with an acquittal and sent himself to living in a recluse.

The King of Pop suffered cardiac arrest in his home and was reportedly no longer responsive when brought and admitted to the hospital.

No Country For Old Men

If you haven’t watched No Country For Old Men, I recommend you do. First of all, I got to know about this movie not by publicity, but thru my husband. He said it was a good movie based on numerous reviews he read online. So, I decided to give it a try.

No Country For Old Men is a film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s novel of the same title and stars Tommy Lee Jones (playing Sheriff Tom Bell), Spanish actor Javier Bardem (Anton Chigurh), and Josh Brolin (American Gangster).

The movie follows the character of a Texan hunter Llewelyn Moss, who finds a number of murdered drug runners and a bagful of money while trekking the desert. What Moss did not realize when he decided to keep the $2 million he found, is that a psychopathic hired killer, Anton Chigurh, is out to recover the money, which is easily traced thru a location device hidden underneath those millions of bucks.

If you want a feel-good movie, definitely this isn’t for you. Some may even be put off with the kind of violence it shows. In No Country For Old Men, things happen unexpectedly. It keeps you guessing what will happen next, from the beginning up to the end. This makes the movie rather interesting because it allows you to think and really concentrate on the story.

To be honest, I’m not so much into this kind of movie. I don’t enjoy a movie that doesn’t have suspenseful musical scoring and doesn’t take me back from where I started. But I did like the cat-and-mouse plot and the intelligent treatment of the story in general!

Katrina Halili sues Hayden Kho for Medical Malpractice

Now, this is the funny part. After the infamous sex video now comes the issue of medical malpractice involving not just Hayden Kho, this time, with the ever-controversial celebrity doctor Vicki Belo.

Alright let’s do a little backtracking. On May of this year, Hayden Kho and Katrina Halili’s sex video circulated the Internet. Not too long after, Hayden-Maricar and the Hayden-Brazilian model videos came out causing shame and controversy to the local tinseltown. A senator, who happened to be also a product of the entertainment industry, demanded for an investigation to find out who leaked the videos in public. Which, by the way, until now remains unclear. Of course, we already know Ms. Halili filed raps against Hayden Kho. Apparently, to give herself some justice.

Fast forward today, Katrina Halili submitted another set of affidavits, but this time it’s for a “medical malpractice” complaints. In her interviews she fervently wanted to have Hayden Kho and Vicki Belo’s medical licenses revoked.

Wow, I wonder what other cases awaits Hayden Kho in patricular. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it’s not as if I am on Hayden’s side. Truth is, I am in nobody’s side in regards to this issue. What confuses me is that: Why is Katrina Halili bringing up the “medical malpractice” issue just now?

Isn’t the real issue the sex video that shamed her to death? Isn’t it also the very same issue why some political figures are lobbying for the “impossible” passing of laws that would sanction people who takes sex videos and uploading it on the Internet?

While I do not want to discredit Katrina Halili’s pure intention for herself, it makes me wonder if she’s simply taking advantage of her situation to get more out of the controversy. I hope not!
